What is being announced?

After completing a period of formal due diligence, UF Health and Flagler Health+ are excited to announce their respective boards have signed a Definitive Agreement for Flagler Health+ to join UF Health. Following standard regulatory notifications and associated reviews, we expect the process to be complete by the end of September 2023.

What does this mean? Is the process complete?

Signing the Definitive Agreement is another important milestone in this process and brings Flagler Health+ one step closer to officially joining UF Health. The next step will be providing the standard regulatory notifications and engaging in associated reviews, which we anticipate will be completed by the end of September 2023. In the meantime, our two organizations will begin to meet and develop an integration plan that aligns with our goal to enhance local health care services, expand access to care and ultimately transform health care delivery in the communities we serve.

Why is this acquisition occurring?

After exploring options from some of the most respected health care organizations in the country, the Flagler Health+ Board of Trustees team decided to join UF Health because the nationally renowned health system offers the strengths of a top 5 public research institution coupled with innovative, high-quality, leading-edge care that will benefit the residents of Flagler, St. Johns, Putnam, Clay and Duval counties.

UF Health and Flagler Health+ have a shared vision to advance health care in Northeast Florida communities by delivering excellent health care services that are patient-centered, innovative and high-quality. Joining together will enhance Flagler Health+’s ability to provide high-quality health care services to underserved populations and expand access to care in the community. Together, the organizations will focus on quality of care, access to leading-edge patient care programs and opportunities for training and research.

What are the immediate plans to accomplish our vision?

Once the process is complete, both organizations will collectively assess community health care needs and then develop strategic plans to provide new medical personnel, facilities and resources as necessary to achieve our shared strategic vision.

Together, Flagler Health+ and UF Health are committed to delivering the highest level of clinical care to improve the health of the communities they serve through:

  • Continuing the enhancement of quality and patient satisfaction by sharing best practices.
  • Supporting key community-focused service lines (e.g., Behavioral Health, Women’s Health, etc.) while expanding the breadth and depth of services provided locally.
  • Enhancing Flagler Health+’s ability to provide high-quality health care services to underserved populations.
  • Strengthening recruitment and retention of team members, physicians and advanced practice providers to enhance the community’s access to local quality health care.
  • Adding technology resources and expertise, including an integrated enterprisewide technology strategy, electronic health record implementation and new clinical technology and equipment to support health care professionals.
  • Enhancing access to capital to support future investments in facilities, infrastructure, technology and growth initiatives.

Will the Flagler Health+ Mission and Vision change?

UF Health and Flagler Health+ share common values and a common mission — the patient is at the center of everything we do. Once the process is complete, we will build on this synergy and look to maximize treatment options, improve coordination of care, offer the latest medical breakthroughs and explore new opportunities related to our missions of patient care, community service, medical education and research activities.

Will the Flagler Health+ name and logo change?

The future name and logo for Flagler Health+ is being discussed, although a decision has not yet been made.

For Providers and Staff

Will this affect jobs at Flagler Health+? Is any job loss anticipated?

No significant changes are planned at this time in the organizational structure. We understand that our team members, physicians and advanced practice providers are critical to our future success, and we cannot achieve our shared vision without our employees. Flagler Health+ and UF Health are committed to strengthening recruitment and retention of team members, physicians and advanced practice providers to enhance the community’s access to local, quality health care.

What does this mean for community physicians practicing at Flagler Hospital?

Flagler Health+ and UF Health are committed to maintaining strong relationships with our community physicians. We value our close collaboration with community physicians and will continue to ask for their input as this process moves forward.

For Patients and the Community

What does this mean for Flagler Health+ patients?

When Flagler Health+ joins UF Health, our focus remains the same: to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care resulting in outstanding outcomes. This change will not affect the patient-physician relationship, and specifically, existing services will remain available. Patients should keep their appointments and continue to visit the providers and clinics they see today.

Will there be any changes to what insurance is accepted?

We do not anticipate any changes in insurance acceptance, at this time. Flagler Health+ will continue to accept all current insurance plans, and patients will continue to have access to their providers without any disruptions.

Will Flagler Health+ services stay the same?

Existing services will remain the same. Both Flagler Health+ and UF Health have a desire to improve access and increase the services provided. On an ongoing basis, UF Health and Flagler Health+ plan to assess the health care needs of those we serve. Patients should keep their appointments and continue to visit the providers and clinics they see today.

Will Flagler Health+ continue to participate in community activities and charities?

Flagler Health+ has a strong community legacy and has always maintained a community-first approach. Together, UF Health and Flagler Health+ remain committed to continuing a collaborative relationship with our community and ensuring patients have access to essential and convenient care close to home.
